ABOUT The 10 Steps to 120 Company, LLC

FOUNDING & PURPOSE

In 1997, while preparing to enter medical school following her lifelong interest in the field of Medicine, Desiree experienced a catastrophic illness from which she had an exceptionally narrow escape.  This wholly unexpected event resolutely re-directed her academic interests to the study of understanding disease causation, or Epidemiology.  In 2002, she enrolled in Doctoral studies in Epidemiology and graduated with Honors in 2006.  In pursuing advanced education in this field, her objective from the outset was, and continues to be, to bring the results of life-saving research to those caught — all too often unexpectedly — on the battleground of chronic disease.

Today, the U.S. and other nations generally perceived as “Western” (The UK/Canada, most countries in Europe, and Australia/New Zealand), as well as nations that have relatively recently undergone Westernization in terms of their economic infrastructure (such as China and India) are experiencing  high rates of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, as well as other conditions.   The results are being felt by all — in terms of personal tragedy and premature illness for millions of individuals, and skyrocketing health-care costs for business and government.  The question is:  What are the primary or root causes responsible for high rates of chronic diseases in the Western, and the Westernizing nations?

Dr. Jones’ academic as well as real-life experiences have led her to conclude that four key factors have contributed to high rates of chronic diseases in the West, and in the Westernizing nations:

1)  A re-active approach to disease, rather than a pro-active approach to preventing disease;

2)  Widespread use or mass adoption of Industrialized and highly processed foods as foundational foods, combined with high stress and largely sedentary lifestyles for most;

3)  A lack of awareness among consumers regarding objective criteria, that must be used to evaluate all choices relevant to health — whether these choices pertain to diets, drugs, supplements, or health advice in general; and

4)  A lack of systematic utilization of gains made in epidemiological and nutritional research for the practical effect of improving health, both individually and socially.

The 10 Steps to 120 Company, LLC was founded in 2006 with a view to addressing the above, and other unique factors, that have contributed to high rates of chronic diseases in both the Western, and the newly Westernizing nations.

Today, this company is a leader in the field of chronic disease prevention and provides educational resources to individuals, clinicians, and corporations through the utilization of evidence-based epidemiologic research.  The company’s work is directed toward effecting the prevention of chronic diseases, and the improvement of disease treatment outcomes, through structured nutritional and behavioral recommendations.  In light of the current pervasiveness of certain chronic diseases worldwide, the prevention initiative taken by this company – and its inspiration for outreach – is global.

Dr. Jones founded The Prevention Revolution site to address the chronic disease crisis in America and the West in a direct and meaningful way.  This site brings critical medical/nutritional research and informed opinion on health-care issues in an accessible form to all audiences.   Dr. Jones’ work has been featured numerous times – and continues to appear - on major news media including The New York Daily News, Business Week, Google News Top Stories of the Day, USA Today, The Chicago Sun Times, The Palm Beach Post, The Post-Tribune, Google Official News Site Basil and Spice.com, Ask.com News, Inform.com, and numerous other nationally syndicated health and news sites.
